Been looking for a bike for around £500 and i've narrowed it down to a
Genesis flyer, Trek 1.2 or specialized allez. Which ones best?

The usual, and best, advice is to see if you can find somewhere that will let you try all the bikes and see what you like best. They're pretty similar on paper, most seem to go for the Specialized but I don't know how the spec compares on the 2010 models. Giant Defy also fits into this price bracket.

Is there a thread discussing the best entry level bike? Can't seem to find one. Thanks.

Genesis Flyer is singlespeed isn't it?

Apparently so, shows how little i know didn't even realise. Can rule that one out then. Read some bad reviews for the trek so the specialized seems the best but apparently the 2010 model isn't as well specced as the 2009 model so would a 09 allez be the best bike i could get for my money?

Hard to get hold of an 09 Allez, I think. My mate got a 2010 Allez Sport last weekend... very nice I have to say.

The "entry level" road bikes are pretty much the ones you've listed.

I've not seen anyone say anything bad about the Allez, 1.2 or Defy on this board. Personally I like the look of the Allez, but have never ridden one. Some people aren't so keen on the Sora groupset, but it's a couple of hundred quid to go higher. The Boardman Comp from Halfords is well specced for the cash, the usual "be wary of Halfords bike build" applies though. And it's not as pretty.
