Rolling down the hills with the bike.
Hey everyone,

I hope you are all well. Sadly i was almost knocked off my bike yesturday by two silly mini vans. Dam it freaked out, but still alive thankfully. Worst of it that, they did not know how to drive or were on there phone! Its very annoying. And i just cycle to the station and back for crying out loud! It takes 20 minutes. So i need help in getting a bike camera that is cheap im a student this is the reason for me. But its good in quality in reading off the number plates of bad drivers. And its a good when used in the night. I am fine withthat. So what do you suggest off amazon market? Or any market prices. Perhaps 30 to 40 is the most i would pay for a decent camera.

Also what do you advise me in cycling i the night the quiet roads or the main road? Its the night and im still just a learner cyclist. So i was wandering what is better? the resident area streets or main road. I know that i have to get back and front light. Ordered some already, just waiting for it to arrive hopefully.

So im just a learner cyclist and already was almost knocked off my bike twice. Seriously how charming some Londoner driviers are.

Lastly any ideas on how to fix a squeaky bike brake? Tried fixing it back on with no luck.

Any advise or help would help a fellow cyclists!

Regards,

Marafi.

Having a camera that wil tell you registration will not stop idiot drivers.

Use the money for something else.

Thank you soo much everyone. Sadly just now two drivers were trying to act funny and were each on my side, of the bike trying to overtake me. I didnt see them but i braked hard. The car on my ride drove off. Certainly got abit of swearing sadly and shouting from me. Abit freaked out like the one before still alive thankfully. And i was thinking it would be a shame to report then. After today I AM DEFINETLY REPORTING THEM IF THE POLICE DO OR DOES NOT DO something about it! For heavens sake that certainly gave me a shock in should i get a camera or not. And that certainly answer my calls. Many thanks again. Gosh i understand its a rush hour but seriously knock me down because im different to you. Honest racist BEEPS! Okay rant over. Gosh i should really carry a first aid kit with me also. Drivers in my area are serious nut cases. Even though the street is very quiet.

Marafi - if I've read your post wrong, I have to apologise.

But you're cycling at night, without lights? Sorry, mate - I can imagine few more dangerous or downright suicidal things to do than cycle without lights at night. Doesn't matter whether you have a camera or not. Doesn't matter which route you choose - it's just plain daft.

And you can't really call drivers who nearly knocked you off "silly", or lacking in charm, or not knowing how to drive ... when you are ignoring the single most basic element of safe night cycling. They CAN'T see you.

BEFORE you cycle at night, get your lights fixed, and wear some sort of high visibility jacket.

Rant over. I bought a £40.00 camera from Maplin's; the quality's not great - but it will pick up number plates (usually, but not reliably), and it will pick up the sound of me reading the number plate, if I take great care with the sound.

And if nothing else, wearing a camera makes me doubly conscious about cycling well - not making mistakes.

Hey growingvegetables,

Sadly you are reading it wrong. I was asking about advise in bike light. I don't cycle in the night yet i would, once i have my lights. So dont worry i certainly understand the laws of the bike. Other then that a few suggestions would help also.

Was about to start a similar thread, but as this one is up thought i'd tack my stuff on it...
I've been thinking of getting a Helmet camera, as #3 is now flying round doing MTBs & CycloX thought it would be good to be able to film him on some training rides, be a nice 'momento' when he's older to look back at how far he's come
Don't want to spend heaps of dosh, I remebered someone mentionign the 7dayshop & found these on there....
Camera 1 Camera 2
Anyone offer any opinions on either or maybe another camera that's better

Some nice Seal Skinz socks would be a good start

Think we could force the police to do something if we posted all dodgey drivers videos on you tube and the like. I say name and shame.

Like most things in life the more you pay the better the camera.

If you monitor Amazon they sometimes sell ContourHD 1080p camera's for £150 or there abouts.
You could always buy a Posieden Waterproof HD 720p camera from EBay, I bought mine for £66.
Not as good picture quality as the Contour but it has advantages of three hour record time on one battery, spare batteries are very cheap as it a standard battery and from one 8GB card you can record for 2 hours and 40 minutes.

It is also important to remember most camera's are CMOS camera's and do not perform well in the dark.
