I usually cycle about a metre out from the kerb, but if I'm at traffic lights I generally make sure I'm bang in the middle of my lane. I figure that way the car behind can't miss seeing me, won't be tempted to do any daft overtaking and cutting my up type manouevre (such as happened with a bus recently), and the car in front also knows I'm there as it can see me in it's rear view. I like to make myself as obvious as possible. Never been beeped at by cars wanting me out of the way....yet......

I carry spare inner tube, tyre levers. puncture kit and pump with me - they're all on the bike so whenever i go out i have them if needed.
