Acetone is indeed nail varnish remover.

I think that's the other way around

you need to go to beauty wholesalers or chemist and ask for it over counter. Nail varnish only contains acetone it is not pure acetone.

i'd just use nail varnish remover. It's dirt cheap, and like salt, vinegar, bi-carb and lemon juice, it can be used for all sorts of cleaning jobs.

I robbed the missus stuff to remove the glue left over. Two minute job on two wheels.

Why not just buy as many bottles as it takes from the chemist until you reach 500ml?

Because you might attract the attention of the authorities! If I remember correctly, the London Tube bombings were carried out using a preparation of acetone and hydrogen peroxide.
