I don't think I've ever seen any reproduction double ended brake cables online. Are there any company's that make them? Or will I just have to keep hunting until I find some in decent condition?
The vintage cables I'm taking about are not length adjustable, they have a nipple on each end and they only fit into the Raleigh brake calipers that they were made for.
They do turn up occasionally on ebay but aren't available new.
I made my own for my '58 Raleigh Trent. Buy galvanised standard cables (careful, most now are stainless steel and aren't suitable for this) and splay the ends after cutting to length and fitting the barrel adjusters and other gubbins and build up a ball of solder. A 25w soldering iron should be big enough. 500 odd miles and still good.
For safety I would use silver solder with the right flux to solder on a new nipple of the right size. This needs a higher temperature than a ordinary soldering iron. Otherwise replace the calipers with the very similar late 1960's/early 1970s ones which take ordinary cables.
