The main difficulty with bananas is finding yellow ones, although Tesco's shelf was completely empty last Tuesday and Friday.

Rode the london2brighton, back in the 80's, when "Raleigh Banana" was a pro team. On reaching the Brighton finish, there was a Raleigh Banana table, giving away free bananas. Lost count of how many bananas I ate that day.

I had the bike, bought second hand, though I don't think it was up to serious racing standard as it was as heavy as a blacksmiths anvil!!:heat:

I have 11 bananas in my kitchen. Five large ones and six mini. I always buy my bananas in Aldi because one can be pretty certain they will have mini bananas. These fit neatly in my jersey pockets for cycling, the large ones are for breakfast with Weetabix.

Mini bananas are a specific product in Aldi. The standard banana is the "Cavendish" while mini bananas are a different variety "Lady Fingers." Perfect.

I do know some very boring stuff.......though there is a reason in this instance.

The standard banana that you bought may not be a Cavendish. That's the problem.
As a prequel, my daughter who has learning difficulties, has consumed I don't know how many in her 14 years on this planet. After all, one of the staple baby-into-toddler food was mashed banana with cream and or milk. Her current routine is banana for snack at school every day plus sometimes chopped banana on her cereal and banana (and orange/tangerine/satsuma) after dinner - every day. Never mind the bananas that the rest of us consume, it's a lot of bananas we purchase.

The Cavendish banana, the world's most popular banana variety, is facing a threat of extinction due to a new strain of Panama disease (Fusarium wilt tropical race 4 or TR4), which is rapidly destroying Cavendish plantations globally.

The shortage I do not understand because in Kenya, we had choices of banana and they were so very good. The standard large bananas available in the UK right now to me, taste not very good. There are over 1000 varieties of banana.
