I've just got a new bike (albeit a cheap one), so I wont be buying a new one just yet, but I was wondering, when will someone know it's time to get a new bike?

Or in my case upgrade to a more expensive one?

Every pay day I think about getting another one
Then I remember my flat already has 3 bikes in it and more stashed out the back! No space left at the Inn for extra bikes

If you get into cycling you will probably want another one within 6 months. Maybe Christmas is a good a time as any to add to the collection...

I would wait a while but start looking at other bikes you see locally, and start to think about what sort of riding you want to do, to determine what sort of bike you would like, so mountain bike if mainly off road to the other end of the spectrum a full road bike and all the ones in between.

When the sales are on or if you spot a good bargin might be a good time.

the fact you've posted this thread indicates you know it's already time.

Not exactly  I can't claim to have caught the cycling bug after 2 trips, thats not going to convice my parents to buy me another bike within 3 days of buying a new one

Like I said... start thinking about tactics for a Christmas gift nice and early. You will have a good idea by then of what type of bike you will need. Plenty of time to work the charm too and convince them

I probably wont be doing proper road cycling, so a hybrid would be nice. My inseam measurement is 70cm, what sort of frame size and wheel size would fit me best?
Also, any recommendations on hybrid bikes that cost less than £300, I can't see my parents spending much more than that on one christmas present.

Wait until after September, and keep your eye on Halfords. They will have over-ordered on the lower end Boardman Hybrids and the Carrera commuters for the C2W scheme, and will have a few knocking about at bargain bin prices.

Most cyclists I know think 2 or 3 bikes ahead at any one time - sensible planning ahead or lunatic obsessive behaviour - take yer pick.
