Mine is early Saturday mornings.

I work nights, if i have any free time it is usually in the afternoons before my son gets home from school and I might get out on the bike for an hour or so, but traffic can get busy even down the country lanes surrounding Hemel where I live. Sometimes a sunday ride is possible but again Sunday drivers are out in force. The best time of the week for me is after my nightshift early on a Saturday morning. I look forward to it every week. Some weeks it's only for an hour or so if the OH leaves for work at 08.30 but other weeks she has the day off, or like today is working a late shift so I don't have to rush back for Dad duties.

You can't beat cycling along deserted roads as the sun comes up and the countryside awakes, and this mornings sunrise was amazing through the early morning mist. Birds singing, rabbits hopping out of your way at the last minute and the sun warming you up from the chilly night as you cycle through empty villages. I can go for miles before I see a car and it is great having the road to yourself with just the buzz of the wheels for company. I really enjoyed this mornings ride, clocking up 50 miles, stopping halfway for a bacon roll and coffee and was home by 09.30.

Roll on next saturday morning, the OH is off so I don't need to rush back at all.

So, when is your favourite time on the bike?

Beautiful pics (especially the last one!) I wish I was a morning person sometimes but frankly, for me anything before about 10am is still night.

I do enjoy riding late at night, my favourite trip is to get the last train from Ely to King's Lynn (gets in about midnight) and then do the 25 miles ride to my folks house. Miles of empty lanes and tracks through deepest darkest Norfolk. I like to switch the lights off and navigate by starlight/ moonlight on some of the farm tracks. It's amazing how you can get accustomed to almost no light at all pretty fast. Rarely see a soul and in winter you can sometimes hear fieldfares and redwings chirping away overhead as they head inland after their crossing from Scandinavia. No end of owls too of course. Nice hot bath at the other end at about 3am and maybe a snifter or two by the fire!

My favourite bike ride of a normal week is coming home on Friday, but it has very little to do with the cycling. Last week I rode out to Down House in Kent (Charles Darwin's home). Lovely ride with a fair amount of hill to give you a workout and a wonderful destination to visit. I've done that three times now so I'd say that's my favourite.

Another one for early Saturday morning. Often back before the rest of the house is up. Had a brilliant 25 mile ride before breakfast this morning - I was at one with my machine.

Monday morning, I usually set out about 0930. The weekend cyclists have finished their weekend, the commuting cyclists are hard at work at their desks and the mums have finished running their little darlings to school and for about an hour there is a noticeable quite spell around the lanes before the usual chaos resumes.

I used to work constant nights or mids (18:00 - 03:30) but I hardly rode then, most of the time it was walking and yes it was great in the early sun. Now I am retired I preffer to be up by 06:00 or earlyer just to let the fresh morning air into the house and get going before others even think of getting out of their pitts.

Sunday morning, earlier the better. Saturday mornings are for running.

When I was on gardening leave earlier in the year it was any weekday from 9.30 onwards.

I love my Saturday evening ride. I go out for an hour or so around 6-7pm, then come back for a beer and a curry. At that stage I've usually spent the whole day playing with the kids, so it's nice to get a bit of peace.

The Friday afternoon ride home , the last commute of the week, the following day is a rest day, no cycling, the next day is the club ride, the second favourite ride of the week.
