It depends how knackered you are! There's one particularly big hill near me that I will tackle with gusto when I'm fresh, but then even the an incline so shallow that a child with stabilisers wouldn't notice it will have me weeping when I am all-out knackered ...

Difficulty is the measure. Thus, a reasonably fit rider would think of 800metres at 5% as a steady drag, a not so fit would have climbed a big hill! Climbs come in different varieties, for instance just 300 metres of Constitution Hill in Swansea, on cobbles, at 35% (really!!) is a tough sharp sprinters climb, even more "fun" in the wet with wheelspin IN THE SADDLE, whereas 20km+ in the Pyrenees at 4% is DEFINITELY a climbers climb. The joy (if it is joy!) is that they are all different and have to be ridden your own way. Enjoy......

We don't do inclines - we have braes. There are also variations - like a bit of a brae, a fair brae etc.

Given that we refer to hill walking when we are going away to climb a Munro, I would say the barrier for being a hill is pretty high. I very rarely venture up a hill, but part of the criteria for me would be how it is named. I climbed The Suie yesterday and it is definitely a hill.

Agreed! When you've ridden 200 miles, something that you would have flown up at the start of the day takes a lot more effort (speaking from experience)

see what you have started a maths lesson lol in my mind a hill is when you get out of breath and start to struggle but then again where I come from the tellytubby house would be mountain. it is as flat as a flat thing that is really flat

I knew there would be loads of different opinions of where a flat stops and a hill starts ;)

From my own persepective, I suspect the hills start a lot sooner than the rest of you

Oh, and they're braes here too !
