wheels with chips

i'm looking at getting some wheels - looking as some ksyrium elites - i'm looking at some with a small chip in the rim (pictured) - do you recon these will be good/OK/not kill me (claim to have been checked by bike shop + had 700 miles since incident too)

Should be fine, give it a good going over though. You will need to ensure your pads aren't running over the chip, or at least take a file to it to remove any burrs.

the vertical line looks like its cracked so would not trust it ......avoid

Looks more like a surface scratch to me. Probably where the tyre lever that most likely did the damage slipped down the rim scratching it when the rim chipped.

even so thats quite a gouge out of the rim i know a few ppl that do allow repairs on car wheels maybe worth investigating if there is an alloy repair specialist in your area that would be able to repair it

in saying that this wheels would need to be really cheap

The chip is an issue, the scratch is not.

That scratch can be sorted with a bit of wet and dry. The actual chip though looks grim!

glad you all said that - was tempted if it had been astronomically cheap - still considering coz there's a spare rim on ebay at the moment - sadly it finishes before the wheelset
