Looking to upgrade and have been stuck choosing between a few sets. I have seen the mavics nice wheels and probably a safe bet, was put off the Dura-ace 7900 c24 due to the maintenance of the hubs. However these swiss side wheels sound pretty good for the money (franc wheelset) but being new would be the risky choice, has ceramic bearings weight slightly more than the mavics. The more I think about it the more confused I get!!!!
I need help what should I do?
Safe bet or riskier choice which may prove to be a better wheel. Has anyone heard of or had any experience of swiss side?
Thanks

I'm firmly in favour of sticking to the tried and tested - spares are available and Mavic are generally pretty good at sorting out any problems.

Anyhow - IMHO the difference between these sets of wheels is usually pretty small (Have tried Fulcrum 1, Elite, Equipe and SL - and currently use Zonda's perfectly happily. I think a lot of people are chasing around for something that is not there).

Those Swiss Side Franc's look gorgeous. (because that's what it's really about :becool: ) There's only 50g difference to the Mavic's and being honest you ain't going to notice any real difference between any of those wheelsets that you have mentioned.

I've found that ceramic bearings do make a bit of difference.

If it was me I'd choose (take a punt) on the the Swiss Side, but then I am light on my bike and haven't needed to repair/tweak any wheels apart from chucking a pair of Mavic Cosmic Elite in the bin after a 30mph stack.

If you are going be caning the crap out of them everyday then I'd pick a well-known, easier to repair set.

Let us know what you get and we want pic's especially if it's those Swiss Side's!

Deep down I know the differences will generally be pretty minimal and to be honest although I enjoy my cycling, and race I doubt that I will notice a huge difference regarding stiffness etc..... I have been in touch with a guy from Swiss side to check the authenticity and what I got back was pretty reassuring still not decided.
Before I gave up football and started this cycling 4 years ago I never would have thought I would be spending this time researching wheels/group sets/saddles/frames etc. this is a proper bug hopefully I will be cured when I get the perfect set up (although I doubt it)
Thanks for the advice so far!
