Having bought a Roubaix SL8 Sport 105 earlier this year I was interested to know the weights of the wheels so I could make a comparison against possible upgrades. Specialized weren't able to give me any numbers, so I took the time to strip the wheels down to get some data.
Specialized's site lists the wheels (of the Sport 105, Sport Apex, and Comp) as:
DT Swiss G540 rim, 24mm internal width, tubeless ready, 24h, Specialized full sealed bearing thru axle hub, centerlock disc, DT Swiss Champion 14G stainless steel spokes, DT Swiss brass nipples
The rear wheel and hub (no tyre, tube, or brake rotor) comes out as 1128g, and the front wheel 908g (total of both being 2036g).
The supplied S-Works Mondo 2BR, T2/T5 700x32c tyres are 360g each, with the butyl inner tubes 28-38x622 (700x28-38C) being 169g each.
A pair of 9VELO CD58 2.0 wheels is listed as 1343g, and with TPU tubes (approx 40g each) that would be a substantial weight saving... but would make my wallet lighter too. So maybe I should just eat fewer pies.
