Just had a call to say my wheel is ready to collect. It has been re spoked so hopefully all should be well but will check tensions of spokes regularly

To test for spoke tension, just hold a screwdriver lightly against the spokes as you spin the wheel, you should hear a high pitched 'ting'; if you hear a dull sound more like a 'thud', you have a loose spoke.
When most cycle shops replace a spoke they do not re tension the whole wheel, they only bring it into true, that is why you had been breaking so many.
As a heavyweight myself, been over 15st for far too long, I can ride on 32 spoke 3x wheels with 23mm tyres without any problems.

What you say about lbs not retentioning all the spokes when replacing a broken spoke is very true, I think one should ask for it. It might cost more though.

Once a loose spoke has been found it might be a job as simple as bringing the tension up to the level neighboring spokes on the same side, however, sometimes the wheel would go out of true, in those cases the problem is a little more complicated.
