it would however, appear that Butyl can be lighter than latex - fact

Speed, I imagine will be down to the engine ^_^

When I compare the two, I'm obviously comparing them at identical power. Anything else would be futile.

Rolling resistance with latex tubes is in the region of 10 -15 watts less than with butyl.

I don't want to come over all evangelical like, but switching to latex tubes was one of the best things I have done with my cycling.

Please don't talk me into spending more money I don't have on bike bits...

It is annoying that Conti still use Butyl tubes in their tubs. Only the pro issue ones have latex tubes. This tells me, the Latex tubes are better in this context. Regardless, my race wheels are shod with Coni Podium TT tubs and they seem pretty good!

They don't feel as grippy as GP4000s clinchers though despite using the same compound. They were great in the dry, but felt a bit skittery in the wet. Could be the tyre pressures though, I was running at 130 PSI.

That's the aim of this forum isn't it?
I know, I know, but I have already spent a rather a large amount of wedge on bike bits this year, including that all important fifth bike. Surely everyone needs five bikes, right?

As for Latex tubes, I am struggling to find much in the way of direct wattage comparison between latex and lightweight butyl with the same tyres. One thread on weightweenies, suggested there was only a round 1-2 watts difference between the two.

Anyway, I think that more training is probably in order, rather than latex tubes right now. I've got a 100 miler in a couple of weeks and I need to try to ensure that Mr @Andrew_Culture is subjected to a punishing pace for the full 100 miles

Stick @Andrew_Culture on the front for 99.9 miles then blast past at the end. That'll learn him.

Funnily enough that seems to be his tactic, well sitting behind for 99.9 miles, not so sure about him blasting away at the end though

I shouldn't really be doing this (giving away advantage secrets etc. etc.) but read this thread. There's links there to other studies, but Dave Ryan's post is all you need to read (post no 2) He is a respected coach and has forgotten more about training and racing with power than you and I will ever learn.

And if you don't believe him, his test is easily replicable with rollers and power meter.

Obviously training is good. But then so's latex

And yes five bikes is the right number, erm no actually six is the right...
