i weighed both my wheeld last night and together they are 3.2kgs

thats a 3rd of the bikes total weight - tyres are gps 4 seasons

no wonder trying to keep them turning going uphill hurts.

You could get that down to about 2.2 kg but yeah, the wheels are a pretty big piece of the bike

Conti GP 4000 s x2 @ 205 grams each plus Conti super sonic tubes x2 @ 50 grams each = 510 grams
Conti 4 seasons x 2 @ 245 grams each plus race light tubes x2 @ 100 grams each = 690 grams

180 grams to be saved there on tyres and tubes for around £60-70. Cheaper than trying to shave 180 grams off a wheel set, if that's your thing.

I did notice that when I switched to 4 Seasons from 4000S during the autumn, I was marginally slower on the heavier tyres. Only marginally, but slower nonetheless.

i've only just changed to the 4 seasons due to them having the double vectran breaker - gives me slightly better protection on the commute into work

i'm seriously considering a set of mavic open pro - 36 hole - on ultegra 6700 hubs from rose cycles

I'm at about 2.8kg on one wheelset and 2.95 on the other.

Fulcrum R5s with Schwalbe Durano S 23mm tyres - cheap-as Raleigh tubes, no idea what they weigh

Giant SR2s with Giant SR4 25mm tyres - ditto tubes.

Quite surprised to find out that the Giant wheelset wasn't much heavier than the Fulcrums.

tell me more VamP.......

lightweight alloy wheels - 1400g
cassette - 250g
lightweight tyres - 400g a pair
latex tubes - 200g a pair

or you could go all the way

carbon tubulars - 1100g
cassette - 185g
pair of tubs - 500g

which gives you 1.8kg and lightens your bank balance by about 2 k

I use Michelin Air Comp Latex - they're 75g but i rounded up to 100g - there will be air in there too after all

Latex is faster than butyl - fact ;)

You are all bad people for making me weigh my wheel set

So using the not massively accurate bathroom scales my wheelset comes in at 2.2kg - it consists of;
Fulcrum Racing Zeros
Michelin Pro Race 3 Tyres (OEM on bike)
Conti supersonic tubes
SRAM XG 1090 11-26 cassette
Plus the QR skewers that came with the wheels.

I have got my eye on some Michelin Pro Race 4 Comp tyres which have a claimed 180 grams / tyre, which would drop the weight a little and more crucially at the furthest / fastest rotating point.
