You haven't given us much to go on. What kind of riding will you be doing with them?

Hello all. Can anyone please recommend a decent wheel set upgrade for my Carrera TDF-8speed? Compatable cassette fixing and all that. Thanks in advance.

It wasn't on purpose. I went to the wheel threads but had no option to start a new thread. Don't know why, but there you go. I do apologise for jumping in though.

They are a good value budget wheel, Shimano/ Sram compatible. A bit on the heavy side, around 2100gm, but have good reviews.
What wheels and tires have you got at present? You might be better off upgrading your tires if you still have the stock tires on your bike. You would notice a substantial improvement in your bikes response.

Hi Joe. I have already upgraded the tyres to some folding Continental gatorskins. I am now looking at a set of fulcrum7 wheels. As recommended by Gaz. They look quite good actually for the price.

Forgive me for being blunt but you're crazy to upgrade your current wheels if you only ride with friends and do the odd sportive. The vast majority of casual riders have much inferior wheels to yours, me included but get through even the most difficult sportives. I went into my LBS today and casually asked about upgrading my current wheels DT Swiss R1.0 (worth approx £200) and was told that unless I'm planning on racing there was no need to upgrade my wheels as I would need to spend over £500 to see slightly marginal improvements in time. The thing that stuck in my mind was when the guy said it would be better spending the money on a gym membership as the increase in fitness and muscle would give much better results than the best pair of wheels on the market. I don't think the average Joe would gain anything by spending £500 to be a couple of seconds quicker each mile when nothing is at stake but I'll admit expensive wheels do look attractive!

Why is he crazy for wanting to spend his hard earned cash on something nice. Does it really matter, of course it doesn't. I don't race, just ride with mates or on my own and all my bikes have bloody nice wheels. Buy your wheels mate and enjoy them. Back on topic I'd buy the fulcrums, I have had fulcrum 3's on one of my bikes for 3 years with out any problems.
