If you follow someone, do they know who you are (or your username)? Can the followed person contact you directly?

Cheers, so if you "follow" somebody e.g. a pro cyclist then they'll post messages that you can view? But not reply to them?

Yes, you are not required to reply to anyone, just read what you want, the messages posted by well known names or company representatives are for everyone to read, they don't ask questions!

Edit. Just seen post above, well if you choose to follow footballers scour the depths I suppose you just have to take what comes

for those on Twitter, I have a friend who is trying to self fund her way into the Scottish cycling team for next years Commonwealth games. She is chasing a sponsor, and the sponsorship will go up the more followers she has on social media to promote them. Link to her Twitter below, she doesnt post a lot, and would really help her out . was seeing her cycling posts that got me into it, but dont blame her for that!
