Security isn't about trying to make your bike theft proof, it's to make it more theft proof than everyone else. To this end try to make your lock a secondary protection measure so before the thief can think about getting the lock of your bike they have to get to the bike physically.

more seriously, if you have a desireable bike that you have to leave parked in public regularly, don't leave it in the same place every day. Scumbags will scope it out, check what locks you use then come with the right toolkit.

If you are tempted to leave it a few seconds without a lock for any reason, change the gears to the granny ring and low gears, it may give you a few extra seconds to catch someone 'pedalling furiously' away with your bike. :whistle:

Good one..... even if you have top notch security..... ;)

Also go multi mode - i.e. d lock and a chain... make it difficult to nick.

Buy locks that have a Sold Secure Gold rating. It amazes me how many people will buy a lock because it 'looks strong' or other such nonsense.
