I wasn't bothered about waterproof as I'm a fair weather rider .

+1 to this,

as we head towards summer you are likely to find some good offers around. I picked up my altura boulder 3/4 at half price this time 2 years ago and have been very happy with them.

Last year I got some Oregon 3/4 pants. They are fantastic, comfy, good in a wide range of temperatures, quick drying, useful pockets  the only complaint is that the pad does not detach (one day I'll do a proper review)

The only other complaint is that I (still) can not do links

If, like me, you don't want to wear lycra just get some generic sports clothing. Some cycle specific stuff is good and worth the money (merino wool thermals, reflective jackets), but many are ridiculously over-priced - £50 for a pair of shorts? Pfffftttttt.

I bought these 3/4 length shorts for £5 and they're great - loose, comfortable, pretty much waterprrof, pockets with zips for keys, inner-tube, mobile phone etc.

By wearing padded under-shorts with them, I can wear these 3/4s every day of the week for commuting and wash them at the weekend. Though, obviously, at that price you can afford a few pairs.

If you think £50 is a little steep how about these from Tenn's sister outlet cycle-clothes. They also do them unpadded for a quid less. I find their bib shorts and tights (though I notice they don't have any bib leggings at the moment) good quality and fit.

The pait of those I've got I don't get on with for any real distance, about 10 miles is my limit. Pad is thin and too small for my posterior, resulting in the edges and the stitching becoming very uncomfy. 3/4 Endura humvees however are by far my most favourite cycle clothes

I like the Decathlon mid range 3/4 tights. The pad is far better than the Tenn bibs I have.

ive just ordered from both recently....a tenner for tight at decathlon not bad

With 3/4 tights you can pull them up a little if you get warm, effectively turning them into shorts. Very handy.
The also show off how defined your calfs are.

I have a rather nice pair of Endura 3/4 baggy shorts (Burner) but on me they are almost full length
Should really sell them on here.
I was just thinking this morning about how comfy my Endura Humvee 3/4 shorts were this morning as I was getting changed, and how long they're lasting. About 4 years so far, with no signs of wear at all. They've got much tougher material in the crotchular area, and a couple of zipped mesh bits to increase wind-flow.

3/4 are better on your knees when it's cold, and they're fine all through the summer anyway.
My Endura Humvee's are still going strong after 3 years, i think i paid about £35.00 for mine on a special .. the other thing i like about them is that they dry out very quickly if you get caught out in rain
