i am always happy to do a receipt for any i sell , but not many sellers are keen and certainly not many have the receipt from when they bought it , and what does it prove if hand written
I gave the bike shop receipts. Which I realise aren't available for your retro models.

It looks like it's going to be this one. It seems like a quality bike, the right size and very local to me.

Won't happen in 99% of cases - this is a bicycle not a car. there are no reg documents If you are waiting for a seller with a receipt from when he bought it you're going to be waiting a looooong time.
There are other things which can provide 'proof' of ownership. Many people will offer receipts for work they've had done on a bike or even show you a picture of them with it from the past, neither of which a thief is likely to do.

I think that most people who insure their bike will keep the sales receipt in order to prove the age and original value in the unhappy event that they need to make a claim.

There are a LOT of stolen bikes out there

There's a list of items to check when purchasing a used bike on CheckThatBike.co.uk:

It's a good idea to check the bike's frame number on the bike checker web sites.

After purchasing the bike, it might be worth registering your bike.
