I’ve been volunteering with Warwickshire wildlife trust for the last 5 years . Normally 1or 2 or 3 half days a week at different reserve’s, it’s been fun . It’s been great working outdoors after working in a factory for 40 years . One of the reserves has been taken back by the Council parks department. I did worry that the ethos of the group and how we would be managed would change for the worse , but I’ve been presently surprised and things have been terrific.
I could do more, as both the council and Trust do have volunteer teams that do full days , but that seems like proper work to me. I like the freedom of just doing half days and turning up when I want.

I (we) volunteered to take on two of our grandkids till they're 18
I (we) don't have any time left unsurprisingly...

I have been a Scout Group Leader, Venturer Scout Leader, Tandem captain for visually impaired stokers and currently a member, former President and current Treasurer of our local Parish St Vincent de Paul Conference (aka Vinnies in Oz). Rostered on once a week to deliver food parcels.
When I was a teenage Venture Scout, we decided to do cycling for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. This culminated in three of us getting into the local cycling club, but not getting the Award, as the cycling took over.

Several years later, when I started work and arrived at the local church, being "a cyclist" resulted in my being asked to run that badge for the Scouts and maybe stay on. That was over 43 years ago now. I'm still the Scout Leader. It gets in the way of cycling sometimes ^_^

I volunteered as a blood biker for nearly 12 years, handed in my card in 2023. I am still involved indirectly, as a RoSPA motorcycle tutor we train people to take their advanced test, which is required to become a blood biker. This specifically excludes blue light training, which a few groups use.
