That's encouraging, it's on my watch list but I was worried it might be bloated in the usual 'mini series that would make a decent 2 hour movie' way.

Not an entirely unfair concern, but we are enjoying it anyway, and there is substance as well as style as it were

"The Leopard" a six part Netflix historical drama set in and after the unification of Italy. Pretty good albeit with a bit too much "look at this lovely photography and expensive production" but acting and script is pretty good.

I've not seen the Visconti / Burt Lancaster movie (widely regarded as a masterpiece) nor read the book both are based upon.

Anyhow, pretty decent historical drama, whose plot doesn't really go where you might expect
If it's the Tomasi di Lampedusa book of the same name that it's based on, I didn't get past the first chapter.

just finished the last two episodes which were exceptionally good. Well worth persevering after the slow start. I can give the series a strong recommendation but with the caveat that it might have been better with a bit of a trim

Might have to watch the Visconti film version too

We've been watching "A thousand blows" which is a drama based on a true story from the 1890s. Stephen graham is in it, but most of the cast are very good also. I don't normally like period dramas but this one is ok

The Grand Design (no, me neither, BTW) is not 'near Worthing'. It's in Shoreham by Sea, seven miles from Worthing and a town in its own right. That annoyed me!

While I'm here, a recommendation, a should watch more than anything else, given the subject matter. Shoah, the epic documentary on the Holocaust (566 minutes in total) is on iPlayer. It was on BBC4 in January, missed it…downloading now.
