My mates dad used to take cold rice pudding in a sealed plastic bag, and just bite the corner off the bag and drink it!

A DIY gel pack. Now that sounds awesome!

Hi again ScotiaLass. Having perused your blog link, my heart goes out to you. I have re-united with a long lost (very very very long story) old school pal from Liverpool and is wife suffers with the same condition as yourself and I also believe that she has an intolerance to wine and especially red wine.
They lived in Ireland - on the West Coast but have now relocated to warmer climes near Malaga and she is reportedly doing very well since the move earlier this year.
One of the ways that I carry small but essential fuel is in a BBB plastic 'Tools& Bits' can. They are available in two sizes and drop nicely into a standard bottle cage.
I have stopped using the bottle cage for bottles simply because I don't need that volume of liquid nor the weight and have resorted to re-using the small and very handy 200ml Fruit Shoots bottles. They will fit neatly into the two outer rear pockets of my cycle jerseys and are hardly noticeable.

Hi Beebo. I hope that it was Ambrosia LOW CALORIE or similar or was it High Calorie and burn them off on the way back home?
This was back in the 80's before low calorie had been invented, so probably the high fat and high sugar. But he need the energy when out for the day,
He was a serious amateur rider.

Hi again Beebo. Slightly off topic but still on the subject of food and cycling.

I am undoubtedly a child of mid September 1945 and as a result of my father being on Christmas/New Years leave from active service.
I was brought up during the periods of Fried Bread,Beef Dripping,Jam on Fried Bread and all of the "Unhealthy" foods of the day BUT I don't ever recall seeing any seriously large people about - unless of course they had a diabetic or glandular condition that created the appearances of being overweight.
With all of this supposedly health heating hype about and the masses of advertising revenue that is lavished about the TV and bill boards, why are there so many individuals that confound that road to better health?

I am a 69yrs young Veteran Cyclist and stand at 4' 10" tall and weigh-in at 66kgs - ready to ride. Yes - I have a bit of a pot, actually a Melted Six Pack and can still ascend the bumps around the Orrell,Parbold,Wrightington,Up Holland,Billinge areas of West Lancashire despite having had total left knee replacement and riding 140mm cranks to overcome the limited mobility/bend of the new knee.
