I sympathise. I also get bored with the same rides even though the area is stunning, Ribble valley and Bowland Fells a bit north from you.

I also vary the rides by getting my family to drop me in places and I ride home, this also allows me to combine cycling with family activities. Last time was home from Blackpool so I had a good westerly breeze to help me along. You could do this by train, for sure. I like the idea of using the bike actually to go somewhere rather than just round a circuit.

My regular cycling buddy and I are going to go along for a meeting with Clitheroe Bike Club next Wednesday 5th, they sound like a good family friendly club with different levels of riding. Here: My link

I am going to take Thursday off with the intention of doing a good ride around the Bowland fells and back through The Trough of Bowland. I have loosely arranged to go with a neighbour who is a very fast and experienced rider so the pace will be "club pace" averaging around 17 mph I guess, it will be 52 miles and 3000 ft of climbing and a good cafe stop after the Trough. If that doesn't daunt you you'd be welcome to come along. If my neighbour can't make it I will ride alone anyway and the pace will be much slower, probably around 14mph and much more leisurely, eating blackberries etc. and you'd be equally welcome to join me. At the moment it's all a bit unsure because I've also got a tree surgeon coming that day to cut down a tree so I really don't know what time I'll be starting. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I often get bored sometimes when doing the same route over and over again. I do mix it up a bit though by changing the direction as I live in a very towny area. I often look forward to going on long rides and have recently been exploring the hillsides near me (because I live on the coast).

Just try to plan a route which you have not done before and explore the area. (Make sure you dont get lost though like I did when I went on a 70 mile journey without planning the route).

Thanks for that Globalti. I would have gone for your kind offer but I'm afraid I'm working Thursday. I think I did do that trough route on the lewis B memorial and really enjoyed it.

Another problem is I don't know what a PM is or how to send one/do one.

I do remember walking (staggering up) Waddington Fell so I'm pretty sure my average speed wouldn't have been particularly great, although on the other side I got up to 45mph. Like a complete plank I've got a computer but I was so hungry after the ride I never bothered to check my average speed.

I'd be happy to have a ride some other time though when it's convenient mate and you explain the PM
