^^^ any weak acid - just acetic gets right up my nose (although be aware that oxalic is toxic - rhubarb leaves!)

Before you spend lots on skewers (old ones are good and better quality, but more expensive, than modern, imo )try a brass brush and a polish with autosolve. If that doesn't work to your satisfaction then try a soak in oxalic acid acid solution (~5% w/v - no need to be accurate, more dilute = longer soak) followed by a brass brush.

I shall give that a try in the next day or two. :okay:

DCLane

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Still worth a gentle trip around the block , you can bet @DCLane would have done so

I would of been running on the rims.. ^_^

And? I've been known to stick tape over a hole just to test a tyre *

* technically there was tape over a tyre cut for some BBC filming I did. A few other riders thought it wouldn't last the 6 hours of filming but it did ... AND the 50 mile ride home.

Right thread this time lol... ^_^

As the bikes are of the older type and you not going to do fast speeds I need a couple of 700c tyres for my bike but I have noticed the price of tyres has gone up a fair bit in the last couple of months and I can't warrant paying £30 + for tyres so what is a good cheaper tyre I was looking the Conti Ultra Sport at about £10 for the Peugeot bike?

Tan walls for the pug surely? Schwalbe lugano or michelin dynamic classic are around 10-12, I don't know if I'd trust either of them for silly distances but a Sunday afto 20 mile pootle is well within their capabilities

Do they do Tan wall in 700c size as I haven't seen any?

I have used them before and they seem fine , but why not put better quality tyres on ?

have Gatorskins on some of my older bikes and just trying to decide what to fit on the aende

And there's you telling me not to over spend..lol  I don't mind getting better tyres and I might well do that in the end but I was having a think about the cheaper one's first?

Gatorskins.
I love them, have them on the Corso, don't care about gumwalls.

I don't like Gatorskins as I had a few offs when doing some steep climbs( 30% ) when you put the power down on a bend the rear wheel slipped,
in the past ['ve spent the extra and got the Conti 4000's which didn't slip, but I could give them another go as there are no hills that steep where I live now.

Gatorskins - can't bear them, it's like using wooden tyres! And they're proper slippy when the roads are damp (rather than wet). SJS have tans from 9.99 for 23mm Luganos up to £30 for Panaracer Paselas (I remember really liking Paselas but sold them with a bike ages ago).
Spa cycles have tan luganos for £9 at the mo too

Edit: actually I think I've got some sort of Panaracer on my Venom but haven't really used it much
