One of the reasons I love volunteering at the bike charity in Stafford is that we're confronted by that sort of thing ALL the time and some bikes have a lot worse things wrong with them. It's pretty common for folks to turn up with a bike that's not just got NO working brakes but in some cases the brakes seem to have been physically removed. When you ask how they stop their bike they proudly tell you that they use their feet in order to stop 😳. Forks the wrong way round? Piece of cake. And as for Halfords....we love 'em. If it wasn't for them we'd have no customers.
When I ran a fleet on behalf of my then employer we once had a bike come back from Halfords with both cranks pointing in the same direction. The pedalling style this necessitated was tricky to master.
