Were you trying to unclip both feet? Best is to unclip one foot in plenty of time and slow to a stop. The difficulties come in heavy traffic when you have to unclip in a hurry, but doesn't sound like that was an issue. Pedals on lower at tension and practice, time to get used to it


Thats why i went for pedals with clips on one face and flat on other. In heavy slow moving traffic i only clip on one side until I am on my way again.

Having not used a road bike or spd's in about 10+ years, I opted for some Shimano PD-A530's. Like being able to get underway at lights etc using the flat side of the pedal as still finding the knack of clipping in quickly, also lets me take the bike out for a quick test in regular shoes if I have adjusted anything
