I might join a club in which riders must not start off at the same time or ride close together, perhaps say 2 mile minimum spacing whilst on the road. Meeting up for tea and buns would be allowed as long as there was no set time for meeting.;)

What I like about mine is that there is no snobbery and no pressure to get the "right" type of bike when you join. Also, it caters for all abilities, for those who fancy a gentle 25mile pootle to those who want to race/do longer/more challenging rides. The different groups still tend to meet at the same cafe stop, so everybody gets to mix and mingle.

Same as mine really :becool:

My club literally caters for race pace with an A Elite group which takes no proisoners all the way down to the "Wednsday woblers" where you don't even need a bike ;)
As well as, of course, everything in between including some mountain biking.
No-one is ever left behind (unles your in the A Elite group) and everone is looked after

That's how a club should be. The only problem is finding leaders from within the club who will "look after" the various groupings that form. We manage.

You run the club now Noodley? Or startin' afresh?

No, I'm not even on the committee. But somehow I got myself involved in arranging new club kit late last year and despite some resistance from some members that 'we' did not 'need' new kit ended up with a sizable order. Then I got involved in finding out opinion about updating the club website, which is still in progress....and at the most recent club meeting forwarded the issue of attracting new club members. So I have got my thinking cap on again...
You sound liek a runner to me. I thought cyclists were all clubbable!!
Certainly not a runner;) I just find when cycling with others I am unable to look around and enjoy my surroundings due to concentrating on avoiding collisions and maintaining a safe distance from those around me.

I'm considering joining my local club (Ipswich Cycling Club) as I met one of their members one morning on my extended commute... cycled with him for a few miles and had a good old natter... Not sure what i'd get out of it though... Not sure if the club runs would suit me...
I suppose there's only one way to find out!!!

all of the above, but the quality of the routes is very, very important. Six years after joining the Cheam and Morden I'm still being surprised by turns which give me a view of the country that is new and invigorating.

We're very fortunate in having a few members who know every farm gate in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Berkshire.

Thinking about joining another, my old club disbanded - too many folk went separate ways - it was mainly a racing club anyway - club runs in the winter, some saturday ones, but it had a small membership.
