I looked at the Topeak survival wedge pack but baulked at the price and made up my own.

Thinking about it, the empty wedge bag I bought was £16, so the Topeak would probably have been a better buy.

I have a pannier to carry a fleece top and spanners. Because if I get a puncture it takes me so long to mend it that I would go blottobrained with hypothermia without an extra jumper. Also in the beginning I didn't carry spare tyre, puncture repair etc because I couldn't use any of it anyway. I carried a pump as a sort of lucky charm and a woolly hat and chocolate to keep me warm on the walk home. Luckily I didn't get a puncture for a year... by which time I had learnt how to deal with it.
