What kind of behaviour is that in a race?

I had a race today allong the prom. Apart from me coming last (which I anticipated) I had a problem with one of the bistanders.
Whenever I passed him, he shouted abuse at me (must have known me but I didnt know him). It really dampened my day (apart from being last) and at the end I thought that was it. I notified my mother (who was watching) that I wasnt very happy with the way he was acting, but carried on.
Whilst I was taking my number off, I noticed him ride his BSO past. I pointed him out and he started getting mouthy, saying "he was going to smash my face in" right in front of my mother (and a lot of other people). The tw*t then rode off and everyone started saying how he was a pr*ck for acting like that in a race.

The problem is: There wasnt any form of police at the event, just marshalls. Could they have done something?

It's unlikely. People who behave like that are best to be totally ignored, even seeing you pointing him out to your mother probably gave him some sort of weird kick. Lots of things get shouted at sports events and it is well nigh impossible to monitor everyone in the crowd. As this would have been an event open to the general public rather than ticketed, there is more chance of undesirables appearing as spectators.
I'm sorry to hear this guy has marred your pleasure on the day, but there are times we just have to turn the other cheek and get prepared for the next event.

It wasn't your mate from the van "incident" was it?

Presumably not the mate from the van "incident" as hopefully he is suitably chastened by his visit from the wpc and has totally turned his life around by now.
However the mystery does remain who and why . A mate from another "incident" ? Who knows.
Not very nice whatever the cause.

Nothing can be done , in reality , think about 50k plus fans at a football match, how much abuse get thrown towards players for 90 mins ? With action only taken if it's racist

Just some weirdo. Best to ignore him; there are plenty more like that.

Here's a little story: Every year in July Blackburn hosts a town centre crit race, poorly publicised and poorly attended. For the first two years they also held a race for kids, with the usual prizes and a photo for the local rag, etc. Then on the third year - no kids' race. I asked why but nobody wanted to tell me. In the end I got to the truth: the year before the photo of the winners being congratulated by the mayor had been published in the next morning's paper and somebody had phone to point out that the gentleman who had somehow got into the picture and was posing behind the kids was in fact one of the town's most notorious kiddie-fiddlers. Ooops! Red faces all round and no kids' race the following year!

I was once told by a very wise Priest that there is a bully in every classroom. The best thing is to have a bit of a cry or punch the pillow or go for a run (whatever lets it out for you) then move on.
He is clearly the loser not you.

In fact Saturday night I was riding past a pub and a bunch of drunken idiots started shouting loser at me. I just carried on saying to myself I'm on a lovely bike ride on a racer I've always wanted that I've just bought for half the price on ebay with money I've earned and your'e standing in the street smoking fags, getting pissed and shouting abuse. You're the losers.

Bullies are cowards and losers they pick on the weaker or smaller or more passive because they are so insecure and of low intelligence that the only way they can score points for themselves is to belittle others to boost their own insignificant fragile ego's.

I'll stop now.

i disagree this ignoring them, but will go allong with the majority, personally i think we the majority should thump the liveing daylights out of them for spoiling our collective day,and either they wouldent do it again or they can have a darwin award? just an idea, but if they want to breath our air and drink our water they have a duty to behave

Agreed.

Moreover (and I mean this kindly) - toughen up! There are people around that will act as this fool did. If you're going to let each and every one of them upset you then you're only going to make your own life a misery.

I know it's hard to do but forget it. The guy's an idiot and you ought not waste your time worrying about idiots. You've better things to do with your energies. As suggested earlier, and if necessary, let the frustration out some other way. For example, find a decent climb and sprint it! Turn your anger to your advantage, burn it off training!

What he said. I also agree with the other poster who said you should have kicked his arse, but thats only if your handy in a fight anyway for obvious reasons. I got pushed off my bike once, it was the most angry I ever felt and I did go to kick his arse before a couple of the scumbags mates prevented me from doing so. People like this shouldnt be allowed to stay on our planet.
