Does anyone know what is that white paste used when fitting a new car tyre?

Is it some sort of sealant?
I dont think they put any on when I bought 2 new tyres recently and I have to top up the air in both of them every few days.

Think I'll have to speak to the garage that did it.

Think it's called Tyre Soap and it is a petrolium / silicon mix. Very odd for it not to be used IMHO.

I think that it's more of a lubricant than a sealant and is called tyre mounting compound.

If your tyres are leaking air is could be that there's some rim corrosion and then you need to use some bead sealant.

tyre sealing compound or soap , used for 2 reasons make tyre rim slippy and also helps to seal rim edge , would be very surprised if not used in some form

Thanks, boys. Food for thought.
I'll take a closer look at the rims first (there is some corrosion on them for sure).

Check the valve as well. A bit of washing up liquid on the finger then rub this on the head of the valve after taking off the dust cap. If you see bubbles it's leaking so take it back, they may have fitted a faulty valve.

Take tyre levers and a spare tube. And flapjacks.

I've thought of that for my electric trike project. I have two little 14x4.5" MGB wire wheels for the front and a big Morgan 15x6" wire wheel for the rear and no where for one spare never mind two different sized spares!

Tyre levers and inner tubes would weigh less too. Wouldn't risk changing a tube on the motorway hard shoulder though.

Steel rims? You may need to remove the tyres and wire brush the rims to remove the rust where the tyre bead sits. I always insist on doing this when getting tyres fitted. The people in the tyre centre won't like you but tough.

Alloy rims can sometimes go slightly porous with age.

If you like, take the wheels off and hold them in a barrel of water and see if there are any bubbles anywhere. I may just be the valve, or the seal around the valve stem where it goes into the rim, it may be around the beading of the tyre.

This is what the problem was.
The tyre man sorted it out by applying some type of adhesive to the rim/bead. He put some new valves on for me too, though i did check those for leaks.
