thanks lads for your help...at least it has`nt come from woolworths and wont fall apart...my son had a saracen as a first bike in the 80s and it stood up well to his antics..so probably a good make then??

i measured the frame (centre of crank to seatpost clamp) and its 17" so is this ok for me at 5 foot 11 inches ???

It's in the ballpark alright. Bike makers size their bikes differently anyway so it's always just a case of trying the thing to see how it feels. A shorter bike will feel more upright and comfortable off road and just playing around. a longer one will be better on the road at speed, if you know what I mean? But if it feels ok to you then it is ok.

No offense but unless you basically ride off-road, that's probably not a very good bike for you. You'd do much better to get yourself an old 10 gear racer - loads more fun, and much faster for less effort. You can pick one up off ebay for fifty quid give or take, and when you've played around with it for a while - a year maybe - get a good one that really fits you for a hundred, give or take.

hi all thanks for all the advice, a racer no!.. too much leaning forward for me, gonna do mostly local cycle tracks that consist of tarmac/dirt etc so mtb best...got 2x kenda kobra 26 x 2.0 tyres and 2 x kenda presta innertubes ..all new for £20 off e-bay..now it runs much nicer..
