hi all...with pressure from the wife (keep fit ,lose weight etc, etc) she has decided to cycle regular and i have been enlisted without my knowledge to assist her, i have not had a bike since my youth and a lots changed so i am hoping you kind members will assist in my questions.. pml..i have been given a bike and this is what i have found on it...frame just 1 sticker says 7500 series heat treated aliminium.(so what make?) 21 shimano gears and crank/pedals...rst forks, tektro brakes, a-head headset/stock/ (how do i adjust ,no visible nut, just allen key on top),wtb wheels with speed 23..11.3 stickers on rims ,quick release hubs...2 odd tyres ,1 size 44/50 and 1 size 26x1.95 ..1 inner tube had 8 patches and it now has 9 where i repaired puncture...both tubes have high pressure valves..which i now know are called presta and i was thinking of fitting 2 new strader inner tubes (26x1.9) but the hole in wheel rims is not big enough for valve to pass thru..the one thing i noticed is how light the whole bike is...sorry to bore you with all this and thanks for any help... p.s( she got the new bike.)

Welcome to CC

By what you have said I can not tell what bike it is. As there are loads of bikes that use 7500...

Welcome.

I know what you have there. It's called a bicycle. You sit on the soft triangle bit, facing the swing-about bar thing, and put your feet on the little platforms that stick out from the little legs underneath you.

Now get back up off the ground and next time only put your feet up on the platforms when the bike if moving. You'll notice to the two wheels? That's how it moves, it rolls along the ground on those. The little platforms things? You push those around with your feet and the gears you mentioned translate the movement into drive for the back wheel, and off you go.

You'll have noticed that you've only got two wheels there? Less than ideal, most cars have four but bicycles are very cheap so have to make do with the two. We get around this by balancing on the wheels, like you would on a tightrope. Yes, I know it's idiotic and lots of cyclists crash off the things, but it's either that or work harder so that you can stop being a looser and buy a car. To be honest, balancing is not too hard and you'll pick it up soon enough, once you've fallen off a few times.

Let us know how you get on? :0)

Trek 7500? Tektro brakes, A-head headset and Shimano kit would soundabout right. Any chance of a picture?

I am presuming it is a road bike (drop handle bars) or hybrid with thin tyres??? which is why the hole isn't big enough for Strada valves. 9 patches!!!! LOL. sounds like you need a new inner tube to start with!

why not drop the bike down to your local bike shop (aka LBS) (that's one that specialises in bikes, not your halfords type shop) and ask them to give it a quick once over/service.

Sounds more mountain bikey to me, looking at the tyre sizes on it! Although, I'm assuming (possibly wrongly) that the rst forks are suspension forks?

But yes, a picture might help (well, it will some people - I probably still wouldn't know what it is)!

No idea, looks like it's been painted or something (or just very well used), but at least I was right about it being a MTB ;)
