HOWEVER, this flies in teh face of some taught behaviour; MSM - Mirror, signal, manouver; which clearly implies that one does NOT signal until safe to do so and road is clear - i.e. you are effectively executing the manouver?
Nope. You do not wait until the road is clear before you signal.
MSM means (it's no longer Mirror but Observation, but no worries) you check to see what is around you before signalling your intentions. If, for instance, you observe a police car coming up behind, then you might not make the right turn you were planning but pull over to the left instead.
