I believe that standard mtb are 26 inch and that
29's are 700 wheels with tyres that take them to appx 29 inches

Otherwise much the same

Here is mine I opted for rigid front

Lovely bike can I ask what make/model it is?

opposite of less stable.
Less twichy, easier to keep upright.

An example of stable would be a formula one car travelling in a strait line.
An example of unstable would be an articulated lorry in a crosswind.
So what you are saying is a 29er is easier to keep upright and is more stable in a straight line ?

From riding both over the same trails I feel more solid on a 29er, less like I'm going to overbalance, hence more stable.
I suppose it's like the difference between riding a shire horse and a wild stallion! No, not really, but I can't think of a clever analogy.
The only way to understand it is to go out and ride both, then you'll see.

Oh don't worry on my count, Ive ridden both. ^_^ Frame geometry stem length and handlebar width/type will have far more bearing on the differences you have noticed have you checked them against your 26er ?

I don't have a 26, but before I bought the 29er I took the same bike in both wheel sizes out to try for a day - cube analogue. Obviously there are some differences in geometry etc, but not much. I think the bar width does have a lot to do with it though.
I feel a lot more confident on the 29, but it's also further to fall off!

Hi, Saw this, I got both a 29er, and a 26 inch MTB
The 29er is a Gary Fisher Trek, and the 26 is a Specialized Camber, twice as expensive, much better gear, suspension than the 29er, so, which do I always take out, the 29er! Its a much Cheaper Bike that the Camber, not as high speck, but it Rides 10 time better than the Camber!
Going down step's for eg, a much better roll, the steering has got a bit of a different feel to it, but when you get use to the balance, it's well good!

I wouldn't leave home without it!. well I would, thats when i'm on the Allez!
