Finished cutting off / removing all the major bits of unwanted junk on 4 ex hire scheme Ebikes on behalf of the owner of an LBS.
Deal being I keep any of the removed items and he gets 'cleaner' bikes ready for final fitting out.
Only decals / marketing bs left - which I suspect are going to be fun, based on a few desultory picks n prods.
Shed / workshop
Grinder
Assorted tools
No oaths / swearing - for once.
No tea as don't drink it.

Saturday had the pleasure of two Dutch bikes for a rear puncture and a new rear tyre, one of which I had to remove the whole enclosed chain guard just so I could get the chain loose enough to drop the wheel out; luckily was able to swap out the tyre without removing the gear cable although the adjuster for the rear drum brake was seized :banghead:.

In my time in the bike shop fortunately we had a frame spreader (or fork spreader) for that.
Without that... I probably would have ended in prison for swearing and cursing too much and too loud. ;)

Kiddie bike in for new chain, rear brakes and derailleur - mini MTB. I suspect the rider was a right tearaway, as the hanger -and- derailleur was bent. Also rust had affected one brake post.
So, derailleur and hanger replaced, then chain, to find the chainwheel was bent and throwing the chain off. SO, straightened (ish) the 'finest Chinese-ium' ring and sorted the gears.
Brakes stripped, cleaned, de-rusted, assembled re-noodled and re-cabled. Didn't test ride it, because my knees no longer go that high.

Fitted new mudguards on the main commuter bike at 06:50 this morning.

It's not as bad as it sounds as all it involved was releasing 3 clips at the front and 2 at the back (the broken third was the reason for the swap) on the SKS Raceblade Longs and clipping in the spare set I had in the shed. I now need to source a new 'spare' set - why don't SKS just sell the rear (as Crud do with their Roadracers) as it's always the rear clip that fails.

Or improve the quality of the clip?

There is that!
This is the third one that's failed in 8 or 9 years and it's always been the rear clip on the mudguard where it attaches to the bracket at the brake bridge.

I’m sure it’s no consolation that my SKS mudguard bridge goes at the same place :-( Just relplace another one.
Must be those ‘hard miles‘ I put in :-p

Yesterday my new bike stand has arrived. I celebrated its arrival by tackling my younger son's bike. Its rear gears wouldn't shift. I discovered that the shifter was producing all the necessary clicks, but the cable at the derailleur wasn't moving at all. Furthermore, I was unable to move the cable much - in particular, extract the outer from the fittings in the down tube (it's internal routed, without the outer inside the frame). From this I concluded that the lower part of the cable, the one that runs along the chainstay, has become rusted and merged with the outer. So I cut it in the middle, and then was able indeed to pull out the other half - it was indeed rusty through and through. I've just received a routing kit, but ended up doing without it, using the old cable as a guide for the new one. The new outer was cut to size, the new cable was greased and installed, all that remains is to adjust the derailleur.

Popped in the garage earlier, and thought I'd check the commuter's brake pads. Been keeping an eye on them. Yup worn out, not much left on the rear. Old fashioned canti's, but I got four sets of pads from Wiggle recently. Always a little bit of faff when you change pads, re-adjusting, but all sorted for tomorrow (assuming I feel better - missed three days commutes this week - but not missed working - been busy).
