No, you said they had been that price "for as long as you can remember".

So they have held the price for that long (however long you can remember), before (finally) putting it up. And you need to work out what inflation would have been over the period "as long as you can remember", not just over the last year.

Sad or what! Turning my little rant into some kind of nerdy economics debate! My point was that they've bunged the price up by 60 pence! What's not to hate about the thieving gits??!!🧐

A few weeks ago the salted cashews in Lidl were 59p, and then they shot up to 99p. I wondered if the World cashew price had increased considerably. When I saw a similar bag in Tesco for nearly £4 it confirmed my thoughts!

If they have bunged it up by that much after keeping it the same for a good few years, then nothing.

If they had bunged it up by that much after only changing it a year ago, then one might reasonably be annoyed - though you still have no idea what their costs may have increased by.

I don't know what they cost 'a good few years ago' as I've only been buying them for about a year. I think they were £1.30 then, maybe £1.25. Even if they've kept the price down when they could've put it up say 5p a month, to put it up by so much so suddenly isn't good. Yes, shoppers have been 'saved' from a 5p rise every month, but to put the price up like that isn't good marketing practice, in my opinion. Shoppers wouldn't notice and grumble much about a 5p a month increase, but to increase it by so much in one month looks bad!

I fancied fish and chips over the weekend. Can't remember the last time I bought them as a takeaway. Fish, chips, mushy peas £12.70! Won't be having them again in a hurry at that price.

£8.50 at my local for the 'special' fish, a large in any other name, and it was a large portion too. £12.70 would be beyond me though.

The Cod (9.5 oz) is £7.95 at mine, then chips are £2.25 and mushy peas another £2.25, so that would come to £12.45 for Taile End Charlie's order.

But that is just about enough to feed both my wife and myself. Sometimes I'll add a portion of cod bites (£4.50 for 3), as I might want more fish than just half the above, but that is being a bit greedy TBH. The single portion of chips are more than we really need between us.

£12.45 for 2 people (or £16.95 with the bites) for Fish, Chips and Mushy seems ok. £12.70 for the same for 1 is not!

I would agree, but most chippies round here seem to do portions big enough for both of us.

If I spent that £12.45 on what is supposedly a meal for one, I would struggle to finish it. Which does make it rather wasteful if you are buying it for just one.

I'd think most if not supermarkets have Comte but you'll pay even more in Waitrose and M&S especially if you want the posh stuff ;)

My local chippy has changed hands and...wow...chips from my 1970's childhood actually made from spuds and not those stringy oil-laden affairs that taste so bland. OK, they don't fry 'em in coronary-inducing full animal fat, but they're great and an improvement over others. The portions are waistline-busting as well.
