The fact he could even ride is f'ing amazing!!!
Not wishing to diss the courage of TdF competitors, but as horrible as the injuries looked they are "only" superficial. As uncomfortable as it must be to sleep at night with a mile of skin missing it is the impact injuries - especially to the joints - that prevent sportsmen from continuing and many cyclists carry on swathed in bandages after a slide along the tarmac.

Much as some like to have a go at pampered footballers when they go off after a crunching tackle it is mostly because they are incapacitated after a set of studs direct to the ankle, knee or shin.

Indeed. Football actually causes far more career-ending injuries than cycling (or rugby for that matter). And the reason why footballers fake is obvious too - because the way the game is set up encourages it. South Americans generally see the fakery as a particular skill within the game, not something separate from it. Where there are similar opportunities in cycling they are used too, and if faking crashes was advantageous in some way in racing, you certainly see cyclists doing it. People are people.

The "superficial wounds" involved stitches to his ball sack from what i heard! where do i sign up for the crunching tackle? 50k a week is it? ...The thing that wears out footballers is the fact they are treated like meat untill they make it, the amount of kids and never have been footballers with knackered joints is ridiculous.

Rugby players take crunching impacts constantly and don't seem to have the same rate of knackers as football produces.

In all seriousness - I saw that crash live & that probably was the most wince inducing bit of TV I've ever witnessed - what a twonk of a driver...

After hearing about people being hit by cars on the most depressing bit of this forum, Commuting, it was strangely interesting to ACTUALLY see it!

got to admire the contrast in the tan line though…

That's what I was thinking - what a white little bum!

I was also deeply impressed by the man's forgiveness on TV yesterday when he was interviewed. His graciousness was amazing. I wonder what our favourite sprinter would have said in the same situation!!!!

If it was Cav then it probably would have been unbroadcastable!

Something like "Goodness me, that was a bit careless and I'm scratched and cut all over, but that's all part of the game and I forgive the driver"? Hmm, maybe not.
