I can't I'm afraid. I saw the coverage on ITV4 which was relatively discreet, but still dreadful. Which is another way of saying - don't take Globalti's warning lightly.

He'll probably be off the race, but I feel a bit sorry for him. The wonder about such incidents is how rare they are, the way the riders, cars and motorcycles dice with each other at times would scare the hell out of even a grizzled M25 veteran.

This is very true indeed. It was part in jest after the sacking of the motorcyclist a few days ago.

Deep scratches like that are always especially sore. I'm sure his tetanus is up to date and I read somewhere that they all take antibiotics during racing anyway for this very reason.

The trouble is, they're also dicing with the riders.

I'm guessing here but I suspect the driver isn't employed by the tour (ASO) so can't be sacked by them. It was probably just a vehicle licensed/permitted to be a part of the tour. I suspect that licence has been removed. Whether he's sacked or not is probably a matter for his employers (France Television?). I'd imagine the same sort of situation for the motorcycle rider too.

You must ask the question of whether there are too many 'licensed' vehicles allowed though. Are they call needed? In some of the shots of leaders or breakaways, it can sometimes take a moment or two to spot the cyclist(s) in amongst all the motorbikes/cars!

And yet, on the other hand, Van den Broeck was sat on the roadside waiting for an ambulance for quite a while. Presumably because the 2 available had already taken Vinokourov and Zabriskie to hospital.

I think it fair to say that ASO will be one-step ahead and reviewing the situation.

Edit: Interestingly, I read that Hoogerland (or maybe it was Flecha) doesn't blame the driver and says it was just an accident! Not quite sure I'd be so forgiving.

I'd guess that money changes hands, and that the back seats of those cars are corporate hospitality.

Here for rides.

Hoogerland made a fine fist in his interview of winning "Most Magnanimous Bloke 2011" for those comments

It was horrible seeing the incident on TV. The wounds he has are incredible and must be bloody painful. For him to carry on leaves me lost for words except BRAVO!!!

That pic should be shown to every over paid pansy footballer to shame them !!

Couldn't agree more - footballers are just like Andrex toilet rolls -

Way too soft & unnecessarily expensive...!

In all seriousness - I saw that crash live & that probably was the most wince inducing bit of TV I've ever witnessed - what a twonk of a driver...
