I'm almost disappointed I'm asking for a recommendation for something so mundane, but if I've learned anything about cycling kit it's that there's always a better option that someone has found. I have also learned that when buying clothing I'm not as small as I think I am.

So folks... What grease do you recommend? I predominantly need it for the seat post but an all-rounder would be handy.

I recommend 'any' grease...

I use "keenol" by Duckhams, but its a bit hard to get hold of now. Contains Zinc Oxide and great for seatposts. http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=63229#p541758
for normal bearings etc I use http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...mma Multi Purpose Grease 500g&source=shopping

but bought from independent motor spares shop just down road from me.

It has been known for me to use vaseline in an emergency at work- a manager many years ago forgot to send grease and we were in middle of a motor bearing replacement. it held for another week till we could regrease properly. I refitted the building 5 years later and the bearings were still smooth as silk. might be OK for seatpost to stop it sticking but not for general use

I found this in the shed, the only option at the local Machine Mart was a 5L barrel!

i first bought a small tube of finish line grease, for about £8. Than i thought f that and bout a big tub of car grease for about 3 quid, apply it with a paint brush and it will probably outlast me. Also taking of seatposts, theres a gritty orange paste on my carbon one, anyone know what it is?

Vaseline, you can buy fancy stuff but have been using it for 30 years of fettling and umteen bikes and there's no probs, fittings, bearings all good.
