Inexpensive bicycle at a parish sale, 10 years ago next month. Soon after we were a single car family, but after a few years of that, we are back to two cars, as of Thursday. But I live in the States, and distances are a bit more spread out.

Cycled my paper round when 14-16, bike ended up in a bd way with it being picked up and dropped and never maintained.

Started running about 5 years ago on a challenge to do a half marathon. Managed it and kept it up as having a target kept me going out. Tried the gym too, but could never concentrate when there, and easily stopped going every so often. After 6 half marathons , looked for something else and seen the cycle 2 work scheme and I got a Boardman January 2013. Bimbled about not knowing what to do really until I found this site, met people from it, and found out how to do it properly. Now on my 3rd bike, not much change in body weight , but inside. Feel so much Better for having my cycling time each week.

From my perspective I always did it: I don't have any memories of pre-cycling (although I do have a memory I think I can trust on the transition from three to two wheels). Best answer is a hand-me-down trike and then a bike- a little red and rusty single speed with fat solid tyres.

Bikes as skateboards etc were a fad as a kid. Once I passed my driving test they were forgotten for a while until I moved to Dublin. Nearly everyone in my office was cycling as a means of transport so I started too after a while it also became a social thing. When I moved home I got my self a better specced bike and it all kicked off seriously from there and 11 years later I'm still at it.

At the age of 12 I realised that a day on the bike was day away from my sister's bitching. I rode the bike whenever I could to get away from home. I gradually went further and stayed out longer. I enjoyed exploring local lanes and soon joined a club (Stafford RC)

Sadly it was the death of 3 month old daughter, 3 cyclists (that have now become good friends) done a 300 mile charity ride in her memory

I was awe inspired at what they done and decided to get a bike, although I don't ride nearly as much as I'd like I still try and get out as much as I can, been riding now for 3 years and avaraging roughly a 1000 miles a year, best thing I did just wish I could ride more often

My cycling for sport started when deciding to hire mountain bikes due to low wind on a windsurfing trip to Bala. Before long stopped lugging around the sailing kit and got our own MTBs. Got a road bike after that to get extra fit for MTB.
