What goes through your mind as you ride?

... some of you might know that I am an engine driver on the main line, qualified to drive steam engines. I think of the beat of a three cyclinder A4 pacific, which I have driven from Kings Cross on two occasions, working hard up the gradient from the 'Cross to Potters Bar. It works for me every time. Please don't think I am too weird

That's not weird at all. In fact, it's easily the coolest job anyone anywhere could ever have. My HGV licence is a very poor second best to driving a steam locomotive.
FWIW, my breathing sounds like the Lickey banker. Even when I'm not cycling.

.... kind of connected, one of my friends said they enjoyed it because of the wildlife and how good were we looks is. I don't know if its just me, but all I seem to concentrate on is the road in front and don't notice 'the hills or what not?'

Two years ago what went through my mind or at least attempted, was a Silver Ford Fiesta, on a roundabout, driven by a gereatric 81 year old!
