As title really. Got quick links on all my bikes so might as well use them and clean the chains properly.

Any advice - am thinking small / small the same as removing a rear wheel.

Apologies that this is a bit basic (to those who know)

Cheers

OK cool. It's probably getting it back on that's going to be the biggest problem but am sure it's pretty easy.

One of those things that if you haven't done before seem daunting but once you have is a POP

Small at rear and around the B/B shell at the front..

Or, get an old spoke, cut the head off and bend it into a "u" shape. Hook it through the gaps in the chain leaving a loose bit of chain hanging between the two points - no more fighting against derailleur tensioning a chain whilst you are trying to split/join

There's plenty of Youtube clips available, showing it.....here's one (with and without a power link). It isn't too difficult, really.

Use a cable tie to lash the derailleur cage to the chainstay.

Thanks for all the replies that weren't mentioning overalls. Cubist - thank you so much - the idiots guide I definitely needed. It's why I much prefer these forums to BR.

You usually get a very helpful response pretty quickly without most of the snide and unfunny comments.

Cubist - you just need to give me an idiots pictorial on re-threading it and I will say anything you want of me!

Cheers guys

I think I may have enough pics to do that. Check my build threads in mountainbiking.

Nice tip!

DEpends onthe gearing, with hub gears (Rohloff)it is quite critical thatyou know where you are when you put the cables back in place

Agree with Herzog - nice tip, mate! I really should try either of the above more often, when changing chains.
