I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
Transformers - Dark of the Moon.

Where to begin? Wooden acting, no plot worthy of the name, special effects that would have Gerry Anderson in fits of laughter. If this comes on TV and you can't find the remote you'd be justified in taking an axe to it. 0/10.
As a fan when I was a kid they have been a real let down, screen after screen of metal moving across the scene while you try and figure out who is who and who is winning.

They still haven't beaten the original!

Blood Diamond. Gut-wrenching account of 'conflict diamond'-driven civil insurrection in Sierra Leone. Leonardo di Caprio excellent as a 'Rhodesian' freelance gem-smuggler and general ex-army ne'er do well, with able support, great cinematography and tight direction. A nightmare vision that rings horribly true. 8/10.

Logan.

A strange one. Unlike most X-Men films which have almost too much plot, this none seems strangely bereft of direction. The usual violence, and a fair performance from Huge Ackman playing a slowly dying Wolverine. A great performance, as you'd expect from Patrick Stewart, as he portrays a Professor X dying of Alzheimer's and losing control of his powers.

6/10. Not as good as the hype, but not bad either.

The Green Inferno. ( Netflix). A group of environmental activists crash land in dense jungle in the middle of nowhere. They get taken captive by a tribe of canibals and find themselves on the menu. If you're onto poor acting, blood, guts and gore then this one is for you. Some of the scenes are a tad sickening though, watch it after you've had your tea.

Killing Them Softly.

OK. Was nice to see James Gandolfini on the screen one last time, but really it was over hyped attempt to create a slow burning atmospheric film with gritty scenery and stark cinematography. Its been done before and since, and been done better.

5/10.

Gravity (PVR'ed)
Spectacular survival story set in the Earth's orbit. Sandra Bullock has to survive the catastrophic effects of debris disabling the space shuttle from which she is working, and find her way back to Earth. I'm no expert, but the science is sciencey enough for me (no sound in vacuum &c) and Sandra Bullock is really good at portraying the desperate hopelessness of her situation.

The Green Room (2015). A tense, brutal and bloody horror/thriller from the writer/director of the equally tense, brutal and brilliant Blue Ruin. Nasty and horrific characters but brilliantly acted (esp. Patrick Stewart), shot and edited. 9/10 from me.
Available to watch on Netflix.

Train to Busan (Prime)
Effective Korean zombies on a train stuff. Not quite as propulsive as [REC] but certainly fast paced and worth catching if you're a fan of the zombie genre.

Children of Men. A pretty good dystopia-movie with Clive Owen very good as Clive Owen and a lot of visceral violence, well portrayed. The central plot is a bit predictable and pedestrian - you have a pretty good idea where this is heading from quite early on, and that's where it goes - but it's pretty gut-wrenching at times, not bereft of humour, and features Michael Caine in a benign cameo+ as a cheerful pot grower. What's not to like?

Heat.

"When Pacino and DeNiro meet, the Heat sizzles", went the tagline. And it fair does too.

Strong performances from both leading men, Pacino losing control of his personal life but living for his police career, pursuing DeNiro who is losing a grip on his criminal career as his personal life takes a romantic turn.

Good plot, at turns violent, suspenseful and character building.

Very violent, with superb weapons drills. The bank heist scene is an absolute classic, but this is to be expected as Andy McNab designed the heist and was technical advisor for the weapons and handling. Immense criminal firepower Vs a badly outgunned police force.

A classic, with 2 Hollywood hard men at the height of their powers. 8/10.
