Whatever happened to paper weights and doorstops?

Doorstops are still out there. My Mum bought a rather naff looking one in the PDSA shop (basically a cloth cube filled with heavy beads - it had puppies embroidered on it) which she's going to cover in a leftover remnant of my sister's curtain fabric, to match their decor.
