What do you consider your greatest weakness?
(There are so many, which do I pick?)

I only got that once. To be honest, it threw me a bit because silly "interview techniques" aren't in vogue in my industry. By asking, they made me think twice about working for them.

Possibly they didn't like the answer either, as I never went back.

One thing that I used to have to do a lot, but which thankfully I no longer do is interviewing candidates. It's easy to make fun of "silly interview techniques", but you have to have a clear structure and set questions so that you can compare responses and be fair. Just "have a chat and see how you feel about them" is of no use at all, in fact it's a terrible approach. It's a guaranteed way to let conscious and unconscious biases take over. You'll end up hiring personable incompetents.

So you do end up with set questions, that may well be hackneyed but at least they are attempting to be fair.

I think I used to find interviewing more stressful than the candidates did.

I don't think it helps much whatever you ask: introverts will still find them a nightmare and won't be able to give the answers you are looking for, unless the organisation gives the questions in advance, which I doubt they will.

Thankfully, in my sector, you generally are asked to work a day in the organisation on the basis that interviewing well doesn't represent the skills needed for the job. I generally ask for two days.

I get the impression that "interview techniques" are popular in places where there are many candidates and/or the workforce isn't as skilled.
