Medium skinny latte for me - doesn't even have to be on a longer ride (any will do) but preferably there does need to be a Starbicks/Costa/Nero or similar en route

I like Nakd bars but they ain't cheap

Can anyone give me ideas what to eat and drink when doing my longer bike rides? At the moment i am eating powerbars and using lucozade sport in one drinks bottle and water in the other drinks bottle.
I was wondering if anyone had any cheaper alternatives that mean i don't run out of energy miles from home.
Have you tried food? It's really good! Eat what you like, don't make it too complex.

+1 for making your own flapjack/cereal bars, I add dried cranberries, apricot, raisins and sultanas and add a range of different seeds. Hugh Fernley-Wotsit gives a good base recipe and you can change it to taste; http://www.channel4.com/4food/recip...ingstall/honey-and-peanut-butter-booster-bars
Or alternatively just buy something tasty and digestible that has lots of calories ....
Not everything has to be sweet either, Pepperami, jerky, burger and coke, McNuggets all work too if that's what you fancy and can stomach whilst riding.
No offence to Mr Stan, but people get very prissy about fuelling for and during a ride. Pleasure digestability and calories count in large amounts ... your body won't give a toss about organic or Goji berries.

fig rolls. And I've just made a batch of honey flapjacks - from >>>this<<< site
Though more recently I've been sampling various insects and the occasional taster of horse poop - which is all free or course!

I like the look of that flapjack recipe! So much so, that I went out to source all ingredients, just now. I also got chocolate chips, to toss casually into the mix.

Cake stop ! americano + slice of cake ^_^.

I think a lot of the replies have already said try some real food , i have been carrying cereal bars and a gel just in case along with zero cal drinks as i find that up to 40 miles i am fine if i have a good meal before hand, e.g porridge + sultanas as a breakfast. If i was doing a longer ride i need to take on some food but i find sugary stuff a bit much for my gut so i go for kellogs elevenses bars, flapjacks , low isotonic energy drinks .
Also depends on what sort of speed your riding at and whether you want to stop as to what sort of feeding strategy you gor for, i have been told to eat every half hour if i was doing a long (60 mile +) with only a bio/feed stop .On the other hand if i was on a steady run on the same distance with a planned coffe stop i would not need to eat all the time .
best thing to do is experiment and see what works for you.

Ok, so not a TOTAL disaster but room for improvement, with batch #2!
Biggest error was adding the choc chips to the pan, after melting the other stuff and they just dissolved (duh, of course they would - what was I thinking?!)... next time I'll try it 'sans chips'. Might add them to the mix after it has been spread into the baking tray.

Keep promoting swmbos recipe:

Melt 400g of cheapo toffees and 200g of cheapo marshmellows in the microwave (toffee first till nearly melted then add marshmellows) then mix in 1kg of luxury fruit & nut muesili (honey may also be added depending if you like your cereal bar 'moist'). Lay out in a shallow tray to set and then cut into bite size cubes. Tasty, chewy, cheap, full of natural goodness and energy packed. All cheapo ALDI brands.

That honey flapjack recipe is pretty good.
I usually double the amounts in the recipe and replace 100g of the oats with raw sesame seeds. And also make them about 1.5-2cm deep, so they don't dry out too much in the oven. I cook them at 180degC in the bottom of the oven until they are pale brown and still a bit squidgy.
Sometimes melt a bar or 2 of chocolate over the top once cooled.
