I finally traced the smell to a corroded aerosol can. I don't know how old it is but it's the same colour as a car I had in the 1990s!
You never know when it might come in handy...I finally traced the smell to a corroded aerosol can. I don't know how old it is but it's the same colour as a car I had in the 1990s!

What a completely daft thing to do!I pierced our freezer with a screwdriver while trying to chip ice off once. The smell was quite odd. I'm tempted now to pierce my freezer just to remind me what it smells like.

Any water / sewerage works in your area? We had a terrible solvent smell in our house a few months ago which turned out to be the adhesive they'd used to reline the drains.
Can you please tell me how long that lasted? I am trying to figure out where the very slight chemical smell is coming from in my apartment too the last week. I had my water heater checked and it's not that. The only other thing I can think of is my refrigerator, but then I saw this post. There is construction going on in both directs from me 1 - 3 blocks away - large construction - an apartment complex and a health center. I wonder if that could be where I'm getting the smell from too and if it's worth it to spend $70 to have a repair person check out my refrigerator. Thanks!
