Peugeot Racing bike - great condition for age!
$(KGrHqEOKisE4nfCWvWBBOWlQLpt!g~~60_35.JPG
Peugeot racing bike, 12 speed.

Probably around 30 years old (If you know otherwise - please advise!) but in very good condition for the age. Ready to ride. Medium size frame to suit adult, probably 5'6" to 6'

Sachs/Huret gears
Almost new Vittoria Zaffiro 23-622 tyres & tubes
Bottle cage, Sigma computer (not sure if this is working), pump
The rear wheel is not original but very similar in style to the front. I have the original wheel and also a rack, if required.

Spokes have been custom painted yellow and black.
Please allow a little leeway but they should help in assesiing whether the size is suitable. The ‘Centre to Top’ ( Bottom bracket to top of seat tube) = 25inches. The ‘Centre to Centre’ (Bottom bracket to intersection of top tube and seat tube) = 23inches The ‘Top Tube’ (Connecting tube from seat t handlebars) = 22inches The ‘Wheel Diameter’ (no explanation needed) = 26inches The ‘Crank Size’ (from centre of each hole in the pedal crank) = 7inches

For some reason I'm particularly drawn to it but I'm 5'9" and need to be sure it will fit me also wether it's worth £50.

Your advice would be massively appreciated. Thankyou.

if it's on ebay, buy it, try it. if it doesn't fit, sell it for £60

If the bb to seat post is measuring 25 inches, that equates to 63.5 cm which is certainly not a medium size frame. I'm 6' 5" with a 35' inside leg, and that's the sort of size of frame I'd buy for a bike of this age.

I've just built a Peugeot as a winter bike, and the frame on that is 'only' 62cm.

I'd certainly check those sizes. Have you seen the bike? You need to measure from the centre of the bottom bracket, (crank), to the top of the seat post tube, (see pic and not including the actual seat post itself). I suspect the 25 inches may be to the underside of the actual seat as the frame doesn't actually look particularly large.

Well to be totally honest I can't really measure it for myself as its miles away but looking at the picture above and the picture of the bike I want to buy I estimate that it would be no more than 22" at the most probably 20"-21.5" . I think that may be adequate for a man of my height as my inside leg is 30-31". For a bike that looks that good it may very well be worth the risk.

I think it's a 23" frame, you can kind of tell from the head tube and I'm not sure you'd get a frame-fit pump for a 25". Sellers seem to be really bad at measuring frames.

I'm 6' 2" and I use a 23" frame with the seat fully up. You might be ok on this one but it would be borderline, you really would have to sit on it. Ask the seller what height he is and how much "ballroom" he has when standing astride the frame.

As for the bike- I'd guess at slightly less than 30 years old, mid-80s I'd say. There might be a year stamped on the front hub. I've been watching a lot of this sort of thing on eBay lately and I think it's well worth £50. If it fits you won't regret buying it.

No way would that fit you. It's bigger than a 22" frame and even though people rode bigger frames in the era it's from, it's still too big. Even if it was 22" I would argue that that might be too big anyway, depends on your reach.

The price seems ok so long as its aok , wheels true etc but as previous posters have said if its the wrong size for you then may not be worth buying irrespective of the price.
Oughtnt it to have bigger than 26 inch wheels or did old steel racing bikes have 26 inch wheels.

So it's unlikely to fit me. Thats a shame because I thought it looked really good. I am beginning to think I'll never own a racer.
I can't afford one from the shops. It's not like years ago when they were the more common reasonably priced bikes.
I don't even want it for racing just riding.

Oh well back to the drawing board yet again.

If it's got 23-622 tyres on that would actually make them 700c wheels wouldn't it?

+1. You wouldn't lose financially if it was too big. Just re-sell it, you might even make a bit on it. The interest in old Peugeot's, and older bikes in general is very high at the moment, and shows no sign of slowing down.

Where is it for sale? PM me the details as I may be interested myself.

As am I , so pm me too please
