Something like this:
safeman20red2001.jpg

I paid about a fiver from Aldi/Lidl. No protection at all against anyone with tools or a decent pair of biceps, but it's so light you don't know you're carrying it and it's better than leaving your bike totally unprotected when you quickly nip into a shop (or behind a tree!).

Best price I could find was SJS Cycles £13 27

Cash, debit card, phone, keys, tissue, food (depending on how far i'm going), something to drink, water/windproof (depending on weather). In saddle pack, tyre levers, innertube, patchkit, allen key, multitool. Pump attached to frame of bike. Lock if i know i'm going to stop somewhere, but generally i nip into a petrol station shop and take the bike in with me if i need to buy anything.

Belvedere, Kent.
Phone, debit crd, fiver, front door key - all but latter wrapped in film or resaealable plastic bag.
bananas good or energy bar, deepening on distance, fluid.
Depending on forecast - windproof jacket.

Very good advice. I also put these essentials in a shirt or jacket pocket and not in a bike bag, in case we get separated!

does anyone have a link to these CO2 pumps? looking to see what prices they are etc and if it'll fit in my saddle bag :becool:
i like the idea of them rather than the pump, what you think?

Most people I know who carry co2 (including myself) also carry a pump.
This is to get the tyre pumped up a little at first then finish with the c02.

Hi Foxstro :welcome:.
If out on the road bike I don't have a lot of space in, under saddle, pouch so only 1 tube but levers, multi-tool, glueless patches. Mini pump on frame. Water bottle and in pockets goes phone and either money or debit card in a zip lock bag. On MTB I have a bit more room so as above but a few more tools and 2 tubes. I might take a little food if I feel like snacking but not usually as I'm only doing shortish distances at the mo. and am only out for 1 to 2 hours.

I've got phone on and Sports-tracker running while I'm out with Auto pause for if when I go under 3mph. So it stops timing at traffic lights.

Oaf on a Bike
Usually keys, wallet, phone & portable battery in my pockets. Regardless of the ride In the sidepocket on my SQR Tour bag i keep a modest kit... Lezyne multitool (incl. chainbreaker/spokekey), 1 spare tube, puncture kit, spare AAA batteries (for smarts). Also my frame mounted D-Lock & cable, Lezyne mini pump.

I used to only take lights out when id need them to avoid the hassle of taking them off if i stop, but i tend just to leave them on all the time now.
0-2 800ml waterbottles depending on ride length and weather.
Selection of clothing.

Im sure the more bag space you have the more unnecessary junk you carry around.

Pump, patches and a washing up bowl full of water just in case... lights (two front, two back), spare batteries... a couple of alen keys and one of those cheap mini leatherman copy folding pliers (no idea why as it's rubbish!)... a small compact kaghool and a lock. All in the pannier.

...in fact thinking about it... seeing a I have Ortleib panniers plus BikeBins, I can ditch the washing up bowl and just fill a pannier with water... just in case

I take a D lock, bottle, wallet (Keep that in my top pannier pouch as it has my driving licence in. God forbid I'm knocked off it shouldn't take long to find out who I am) and my blackberry (again, in my top pannier pouch for people to go through my phonebook just in case). I might get a little laminated card made up telling people basically "in case of emergency, look in here".

Actually, now I think about it my phone locks and won't unlock without a passcode after 2 minutes. It's not as if you'd know it either obviously...

Whilst I have ICE numbers in my phone, and business cards in my wallet and bags with my home address and wife's contact details on them, I also wear a Wrist ID Elite in bright red when I'm out on the bike.

I've looked at one of those but I can't really afford one. I can get a laminated card made up at college for 10p so I might have to go a bit vagabond-ish and do that instead!
